June 2025 Welcome Event

Event Overview
The MEXT Scholars Association (MSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), proudly hosted the 2025 Reception for MEXT Scholars on Saturday, June 21, at the JASSO Tokyo International Exchange Center (TIEC).
This annual event brought together international students from across Japan for a day of academic networking, cultural exchange, and community building.
The reception opened with a captivating Wadaiko (Japanese drums) performance by Rikkyo University Gashodan Ahirukai, setting a vibrant tone for the day. Welcoming remarks were shared by distinguished guests, including Okuno Shin, Deputy Director-General of the Higher Education Bureau at MEXT, and Yoshino Toshio, Vice President of JASSO. Ashutosh Shukla, President of MSA, also addressed the new scholars, introducing the association’s vision and ongoing activities.
Throughout the afternoon, attendees engaged in a diverse range of sessions and experiences:
- Cultural Workshops: Hands-on introductions to Japanese traditions such as Origami, the Tea Ceremony, and Noh Theater.
- Senior Scholar Seminars: Insightful talks offering guidance on research, academic success, and adapting to life in Japan.
- Information Booths: Partner organizations provided resources, mentorship, and support for scholars settling in.
The event concluded with a networking reception, giving participants the chance to connect with fellow scholars, alumni, and representatives from MEXT and JASSO — fostering relationships that will continue throughout their academic journeys.
