MSA Kansai - September Meeting

On a rainy Saturday afternoon, MEXT scholars—both new and familiar faces—gathered for the MSA Kansai September Meeting, marking our third Meetup and the first time the event was held indoors in Ogimachi. Despite the gray skies outside, the venue quickly filled with laughter and the buzz of conversation as scholars from across the region came together.
The afternoon began with introductions, giving participants a chance to share their names, fields of study, and a bit about their journeys as MEXT scholars in Japan. For many new members, it was their first opportunity to meet others navigating similar experiences, while returning participants enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces from past events.
Throughout the meeting, free snacks and food kept the energy high, giving everyone a reason to linger, chat, and relax. Our Kansai Team made a point of shuffling tables periodically, ensuring that no one stayed in the same small group for too long. This simple touch made a big difference, encouraging attendees to branch out, meet people they might not have otherwise spoken to, and build a wider circle of connections within the community.

The result was a meetup full of constant chatter and genuine engagement. By the end of the event, many participants remarked on how quickly the time had passed and how comfortable the setting felt, despite it being some scholars' first MSA Kansai gathering.
As the meeting wound down, feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees left with new friendships, exchanged contact information, and expressed enthusiasm about attending future events in the region. Notably, several participants voiced interest in volunteering for the association, hinting at a growing sense of ownership and community spirit among MSA Kansai members.
With our first successful indoor gathering in Ogimachi, MSA Kansai looks ahead to building on this momentum, fostering an even stronger and more connected network of MEXT scholars in the Kansai region.
Thank you very much!
