In just a few weeks, a new batch of MEXT scholars will be arriving in Japan. Just as in last year, we will be holding a set of welcome meetups throughout the whole of Japan in order to welcome them.
We wish that these events become chances for current scholars and alumni who have been in Japan for a while to welcome the new scholars, and for the former to perhaps share their knowledge and tips for living in Japan to those newly arrived.
Below is the set of welcome events which are being planned – more information will be delivered as our plans become more concrete. We want to know how many people are coming to each event so please sign up if you plan to attend!

Kanto:
20th October – Ome rafting
Meeting location and time: Ome station （青梅駅）at 10.15 am.
This will be MSA’s first sports event! Please view the event details and sign up here.
26th October – Hongo / Ueno meetup
Meeting location and time: Akamon gate （赤門）, University of Tokyo at 5pm.
Meetup will bring participants through the University of Tokyo and then Ueno park – dinner optional afterwards.
28th October – Tsukuba meetup
Meeting location and time: Hirasune Community Centre at 12pm.
Kansai:
20th October – Kyoto meetup
Meeting location and time: Kyoto University Research Building No. 2 (#34 on campus map) at 5pm.
28th October – Kobe meetup
Meeting location and time: Hyogo International House, 2pm onwards.
MSA is co-organising a career event which could be very useful for the newly arrived Scholars to get an idea about the career scene in Japan. We also want to use this opportunity to welcome you all and introduce you to the current students.

Kyushu:
1st November – Fukuoka meetup
Meeting location and time: Hakata Gate (West), Hakata Station at 5pm.
Hokkaido:
8th October – Sapporo
Meeting location and time: Beside Central Cafeteria of Hokkaido U. at 11.45am.
Meetup will be a welcome barbecue! Expected cost per participant – 500 yen.
